Legacy Parents, Guardians, and Employees,
On Sunday, March 15, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman announced the closures of all schools in the state through March 27, as a safety measure against COVID-19.
After considering the growing national concern, and the announcement from the State of Arizona, Legacy Traditional Schools will be closed beginning today, Monday, March 16. Our current plan is to resume classes on Monday, March 30, subject of course to further information we learn in the coming days.
State officials also encouraged schools to expand child care programs to ensure minimal disruption to critical job functions as a result of school closures. Therefore, Legacy Spring Break Camp will remain in session for families in need of care during their Spring Break timeframe.
To be clear, there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Legacy Traditional School system.
We are committed to providing you frequent updates on this situation as it evolves over the coming weeks.
Student Classwork
We know you have questions about your child’s education during this closure, and we are actively working on preparing academic resources to assist you and your child in keeping up with academic skills. You will receive more information on these resources in the coming days.
Talking With Children About COVID-19
As public conversations around COVID-19 increase, children may worry about themselves, their family, and friends getting ill. Parents, family members, school staff, and other trusted adults can play an important role in helping children make sense of what they hear in a way that is honest, accurate, and minimizes anxiety or fear.
Please refer to the CDC, which has created guidance to help adults have conversations with children about COVID-19 and ways they can avoid contracting and spreading the disease.

We are tremendously thankful for the engagement by everyone in our school communities. Such engagement is encouraging because it demonstrates our ability to come together during this challenging time to determine appropriate next steps.
We will continue to provide you updates via email, text and social media in the coming days.
Sincerely,

Nicole Kirkley
