Dear Legacy Families,
I am writing to provide you an update on our efforts to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in our schools. At this time, Legacy Traditional Schools can report that there are no confirmed cases on any of our campuses, and no report of a confirmed case with any connection to our schools.
At this time, we have no plans to close our schools. We are doing everything we can to preserve our academic environment during this time. As we continue to monitor the situation and receive information from public health officials, we will keep you updated.
The safety of our students and staff is always our primary concern, and we want you to be confident that we are taking every caution to ensure that our school community stays healthy during this time. We are implementing, effective immediately, a series of steps based on recommendations from public health officials.
All Events Canceled Until Further Notice
All large student and staff gatherings scheduled between now and April 10 are canceled until further notice, as well as off-campus visits by students and staff to public places where crowds gather.
Specifically, these events include:
- Field trips
- Sporting events, including after-school practices and games
- Student-led conferences
- Music performances
- After-school clubs
- Staff events
Events scheduled after April 10 will not change at this time. However, we will reevaluate the need to postpone or cancel events in early April, and will share with you any changes at that time.
We recognize this will cause difficulty and disappointment. Students and educators have worked hard to prepare for competitions and events. Families and community members are an essential part of schools, and we encourage their engagement and participation. But at this time, these steps are necessary and appropriate as we work to prevent the spread of illness.
All Visitors and Volunteers Suspended from Campus Until Further Notice
In an effort to limit the spread of illness within our school community, visitors and volunteers will no longer be allowed on campus through April 10. This includes parents attending flag ceremonies.
Lunch Changes: Hand Washing and Salad Bar
Effective immediately, all students will be required to wash their hands before going to lunch. Teachers and staff will escort students to the restrooms prior to their lunchtime so they may wash their hands.
Additionally, all salad bar items will now be individually-packaged to ensure the food is not exposed to airborne germs. And, as always, food services staff will continue to use gloves when distributing food to students.
Spring Break Camps and Intersession Tutoring Will Continue
Spring break camps and intersession tutoring will not be canceled at this time. We understand that there are still students who need support and families that need care during spring break. Therefore, we will continue to host students at our campus during breaks.
Enhanced Cleaning Procedures
Campus facilities teams have implemented additional cleaning measures to limit the spread of illness. We will be disinfecting all surfaces, including computers and headphones between each use, as well as desks, doorknobs and tables.
Thank you for your support as we all work through these times together. We are committed to taking the necessary steps to protect our school community and we will continue to work closely with public health officials to determine next steps.
This situation continues to evolve and we will continue to share the most updated information when it becomes available.
Sincerely,

Nicole Kirkley
Superintendent
