Although this year has made it challenging to keep communities connected, families and staff at Legacy-Surprise found a way to come together and snag first place in the McTeacher’s Night Challenge.

The goal of this annual challenge is to raise money for local schools. Families and staff are invited to place orders at McDonald’s within a specific time frame, and based on the number of meals ordered per school, the proceeds are donated to the first and second place winners.

Cynthia McVey (office manager at Legacy-Surprise) explained that the school community regularly participates in this McDonald’s fundraiser. “Our campus has participated in the McDonald’s Challenge with other Northwest Valley schools,” McVey said. “This is the second year that we have taken first place!”

Due to Covid, this year’s event was a drive-thru and mobile ordering event only. Families and staff from nine elementary schools, including Marley Park, West Point, Arizona Charter Academy and Surprise Elementary took part in the challenge at the McDonald’s on Litchfield and Waddell.

Since Legacy–Surprise won first place, the campus received an additional $500 donation. This brought the grand total of awarded funds to $975! “These funds will help to build campus morale and help make our Teacher Appreciation Week even better,” McVey said. “This will make our Teachers and staff feel how much we love and appreciate all the hard work that goes into every day for each student in our Falcon family.”

McVey also remarked that this event was not only successful for assisting with campus revenue, but was also successful in helping Legacy-Surprise families connect during a challenging time. “This was a great opportunity to work within the boundaries of safety to encourage our families to come together as a community. It’s also nice to beat out other schools in the surrounding area and show how fabulous our families are at Legacy-Surprise!”
