CHANDLER, AZ – In conjunction with the start of National School Choice Week, Legacy Traditional Schools announced today it is expanding its Phoenix campus located near 99th Ave. and Camelback Road. The new standalone middle school building, named North Phoenix, will serve grades 6-8 and will add 39,850 square feet of classroom space and accommodate nearly 700 additional students in Phoenix-area communities.
The new middle school building provides hundreds of families currently on wait lists across multiple grade levels to be able to enroll for the 2020-2021 school year.
Effective next fall, the Phoenix elementary school, which will serve grades K-5, will be led by Principal Cuda who will continue to provide exceptional leadership to K-5 staff and students.
The North Phoenix middle school, which will serve grades 6-8, will be led by current Legacy – Phoenix Assistant Principal Andrew Ellis beginning next fall.
“This is terrific news for Phoenix families who have been waiting patiently for a seat in our school,” said Andrew Ellis, principal of Legacy Traditional School – North Phoenix. “It’s clear that parental demand is high – and growing – to be a part of this special community of learners and we’re thrilled that the new middle school building will allow us to accommodate the needs of so many in our community while enabling us to better serve our current students and staff.”
The new middle school building located at Legacy’s Phoenix location will include 29 classrooms and state-of-the-art computer labs, science labs, music/piano rooms, an art lab, special education support facilities, and associated administration and facilities spaces.
The facilities also include an outdoor basketball court, covered athletic training area, student plaza, new parking lot, and additional student drop-off and pick-up areas.
“What better way to celebrate National School Choice Week than to announce the expansion of a high- performing and tuition-free public charter school right here in Phoenix, said Nicole Kirkley, superintendent of Legacy Traditional Schools. “This is wonderful news for Legacy and for the current and future classes of students who will benefit from a Legacy education.”
Construction on the new middle school building is slated for early February 2020 and is expected to be completed in July 2020 for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
