We’re excited to celebrate a talented 5th grade student from our LTS – Southwest Las Vegas campus: Halim A.H.!

During COVID-19, Halim’s parents encouraged him to stay active by finding a skill or hobby beyond video games. Inspired by a YouTube comedian who incorporated guitar into his act, Halim started guitar lessons, and it didn’t take long until he was hooked!

Halim says his favorite guitarists are Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Dave Mustaine, whose unique styles resonate with the kind of music that Halim loves to play. He’s even had the chance to meet each of them and you can see these interactions on his Instagram page @limisashimi!

How does Halim juggle school and guitar practice? He wakes up at 6 a.m. to play guitar for an hour before school, finishes his homework after school, and then practices for another 1-2 hours. “On the weekends, I play guitar, but there is no set schedule,” Halim says. “I enjoy playing so much that it doesn’t feel like a chore or a task. I sometimes play until my fingers get blisters!”

Selected from over 1,000 entries, many of them adults, Halim was one of a few performers to play the “National Anthem” and “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” at a Las Vegas Aviators game this season. When his name was finally called, he was ecstatic and proud to learn he would perform at the Aviators game on Thursday, May 30.

What’s next for Halim? He dreams of becoming a guitar instructor one day, inspired by his amazing teacher, Matt: “He is the coolest person I know, and he dedicated so much time and effort to help me become a good guitarist.” Halim says his backup plan is to become a luthier who makes and repairs guitars.

Halim’s advice to his peers is simple, “find something that makes you happy and stick with it, even if it gets hard. If it is music, play something that makes you happy. If it is sports, play a sport that makes you happy. If it is art, create art that makes you happy. Just be happy, and treat everyone with love and respect.”

Join us in celebrating Halim’s impressive musical journey and dedication!
