Henderson, NV – Legacy Traditional School – Cadence has been recognized as a Nevada Purple Star School for their excellence and dedication to teaching young students, particularly those from military families. The award was presented to the school during a ceremony on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 10 a.m.
“I am incredibly proud of Legacy Traditional School – Cadence for their commitment to meeting the unique needs of military-connected families,” said Legacy Traditional Schools – Nevada Superintendent Jennifer Emling. “Through their participation in the Purple Star School program, Legacy – Cadence has shown a deep understanding of the challenges these families face and have implemented various ways to support them. It is an honor to be a part of this award ceremony to recognize their efforts.”
On average, military children move every two to three years and Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC), the national advocate for Purple Star Schools, helps schools respond to the educational and social-emotional challenges military-connected children face during their transition to a new school.
“Our teachers and staff at Legacy Traditional Schools – Cadence understand the unique needs of military-connected children and their families because many of our own team members have military backgrounds,” said Principal Cindy McLeod. “We are dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all of our students, especially those who may be transitioning to a new school due to a parent’s change in duty station. We hold special events throughout the year, such as Patriot Day and Veterans Day, to recognize and honor the sacrifices of our military families.”
On Thursday, April 27, students and staff wore purple clothing and accessories to show their support and recognition of the prestigious Nevada Purple Star School award. Next month during Military Appreciation Month, Legacy – Cadence will be honoring its own teachers and staff who have military backgrounds.
