Legacy Traditional Schools (LTS) announced board approval of an expansion of its Casa Grande campus, which will add a combined 26,000 square feet of additional classroom and recreation space, as well as a new single-story Junior High building and a major kitchen and cafeteria upgrades in the admin building.
Expansion plans were approved by Legacy’s governing board in Oct. 2021, and are pending Arizona State Board for Charter Schools (ASBCS) approval on January 10, 2022.
Students and staff will return in the fall to new classrooms, indoor and exterior artificial turf fields, a piano lab, an enhanced commercial kitchen, and more.
At every Legacy school, students receive a tuition-free, rigorous, and well-rounded education that emphasizes all areas of academic study, including the arts, physical education, and extensive athletics and extracurricular activities.
Casa Grande achieved an “A” or “Excellent” rating from the Arizona State Board of Education based on student performance on the 2018 and 2019 Arizona state assessments; During the pandemic year in 2020, the Casa Grande students outperformed the Arizona state average in ELA and Math proficiency by nearly 20 percentage points.
The expansion means that hundreds of families currently on grade-level waitlists will be able to enroll for the 2022-23 school year.
“This is terrific news for Casa Grande families who have been waiting patiently for a seat in our school,” said Vanessa Vierkoetter, principal of Legacy Traditional School – Casa Grande. “It’s clear that parental demand is high – and growing – for a Legacy Traditional Schools education. Since opening in 2009, this expansion will allow us to accommodate the needs of so many more in our community while enabling us to better serve our current students and staff.”
With this expansion, the Casa Grande campus will be able to welcome an additional 400 students for a total of 1,650 across grades K-8
