(SURPRISE, AZ) Legacy Traditional School – Surprise is proud to announce its official designation as an Arizona Purple Star School, a recognition awarded to schools that demonstrate exceptional commitment to serving military-connected students and their families. This honor highlights Legacy’s dedication to fostering a welcoming and supportive school community for those who serve our country.
The Arizona Purple Star School Program, established by the Arizona Department of Education and Military Child Education Coalition, recognizes schools that go above and beyond in providing resources, training, and support tailored to military-connected students. Schools earning this designation must meet key requirements, including:
- Designating a military liaison to assist military families with enrollment, transitions, and available resources.
- Providing professional development for staff on the unique challenges military-connected students face.
- Maintaining a dedicated webpage with key military family resources.
- Hosting military recognition events and activities to honor service members and their families.
Since opening its first location in Maricopa, Arizona, in 2007, Legacy Traditional Schools have long been committed to academic excellence and student success. This Purple Star designation further reinforces their dedication to providing a supportive environment for military-connected students.
Legacy Traditional School – Surprise will host a special Flag Ceremony on Friday, March 14, at 8 a.m. Students are encouraged to wear purple in honor of military families, symbolizing unity and support. Additionally, all active military members in attendance are invited to stay for breakfast in the school cafeteria as a token of appreciation for their service.
Legacy Traditional Schools – Arizona Superintendent Mia Vega emphasized the significance of this designation:
“Receiving the Purple Star designation is an incredible honor that reflects our unwavering support for military-connected students. At Legacy, we are committed to providing an exceptional education and a community where military families feel seen, supported, and celebrated.”
